In the beauty blogging world, sometimes we hear about the same brands over and over. Nothing wrong with that at all but once in a while, it is nice to find out about new makeup companies doing interesting things. That’s how I felt about Rae Cosmetics, a mineral makeup company based in Texas.
Created by makeup artist Rochelle Rae, the mineral makeup line is designed for “active women and athletes looking for performance as well as beauty from their cosmetics.” I had never personally heard of another mineral makeup company focused on active women before, so I was intrigued to try it out when the opportunity came up.
My verdict after a couple of months of testing? Thumbs up!
Here’s a run-down on the products I tested out: two eyeshadows ($16US each) and a blush ($18US). Au Natural is a creamy beige eyeshadow that looks amazing as a base. I’ve worn it on its own with just a black liner or I pair it with other colours such as Golden Earth, a chocolate brown with shimmer. Golden Earth looks lovely in the crease with Au Natural as a base. It doesn’t apply shimmery once on the lid but is more of a muted brown. It reminds of NARS Mekong in the pan though Mekong is a darker brown. The shadows are finely milled and blend without any effort! I didn’t experience any creasing or fading even after a sweaty workout or running after my kids.
Warm Glow blush ($18US) is a mauvy pink, and has fast become one of my favorite every day blushes lately. It definitely gives a warm glow. Remember that post I did about being a blush dunce? Well, I think I’m slowly but surely getting more comfortable and improving my technique and it totally helps that I have smooth to apply blushes like this one!
Overall, it was a great experience trying out products from a new company. I do have to say the price point is more along the lines of luxury brands. The quality is there though so if you’re a busy and active woman looking for mineral-based makeup, check out Rae Cosmetics for more information.
