Pastels? Me? Okay! How Lise Watier’s Pastel Power Collection Changed My Mind About Pastels

I don’t love the weather but I do love Fall & Winter makeup. I’m all about the deep, dark tones of the season. I hardly ever get excited about Spring makeup, and the reason is…pastels. We just don’t get along.

But…I think I could be a convert. Everything I’ve been testing from Spring has just been so…pretty. Case in point, Lise Watier’s Spring collection, which is aptly named: “Pastel Power”.

Below are three of my favourite pieces from the collection*. Here’s Pink Power blush, which is so, so pretty. I have been wearing this regularly. It is a gorgeous coral pink that applies so smoothly and gives the most amazing glow. The lighter flowers have a been of highlight effect but nothing overpowering.

Next up is the Quatuor Pastel Power eyeshadow palette. The colours in this palette are not ones I would run to normally. I’m glad I gave it a shot because I loved the combinations. I used the darker grey blue in the crease, the lighter grey blue on the lid, and the beige colour in the inner corners. The peach shade I actually used to blend out the darker crease shade. More

Saying Yes to Glossy Lips

It’s a rare occasion for me to wear lipgloss. But this week is different. I’m giving lipgloss another chance…and it’s all due to Gossip Girl. Yes, Gossip Girl, the TV series.

You see, I’m new to Gossip Girl; I just can’t get enough of the trials and tribulations of Serena, Blair, Chuck et al, the fashion and the makeup. I’ve just started watching and I’m now on Season 2. One thing that I’m loving from this season is the glossy lips sported by S and B. Yes, I’m well aware that it is circa 2008 but what the heck. I’m digging it. I love it so much that I decided to release my inner Gossip Girl and add a little gloss to my repertoire this week.

First colour that caught my attention in my collection is Berry Glimmer, a fuchsia pink Glimmer Shine* gloss from Avon brand, Mark. This Glimmer Shine gloss looks so pretty and bright in the tube, doesn’t it? But there’s no need to fear this one if you’re colour shy because this baby is as sheer as can be. But it is a lovely gloss that adds a lot of shine. It’s also not sticky, which is good. Stickiness is one of my least favourite features of a gloss. More

Hitting the (Revlon) Lipstick Jackpot!

Ever buy a lipstick and feel like you’ve hit the jackpot? That’s how I feel about two new lipsticks that came home with me this weekend thanks to a fantastic sale at Shopper’s Drug Mart.

Behold, the beauty that is Raspberry Bite and Love that Pink.

Aren’t they pretty? They are just as pretty in the tube as they are on the lips. More on that in a bit! First, let me tell you the story of how they came home with me.

My pet peeve about drug store makeup shopping is the lack of ability to swatch properly as samples are often missing or just not available. I picked these two lipsticks based on what I could see from the clear top of the tube. My expectations were low. But when I got home and applied these on my lips, I heard the lipstick angels proclaiming their joy. A hit! A hit! More

Feeling Foxy! Thanks to Tarte Glamazon Lipstick

Can I gush about a hot pink lipstick? I have to. The lipstick is Tarte’s Foxy. And dare I say, I feel a little foxy when I wear it. ;-)

In all seriousness, if you’re looking for a new hot pink lipstick, take a look at Foxy.

Foxy is one of Tarte’s Glamazons, a line of long-wearing, clay-infused lipsticks. The lipsticks’ packaging is awesome — long wooden tubes with a pretty painted motif. Inside is a highly pigmented colour that applies very smoothly and feels creamy, even though it is matte. More

In the Groove

When you’ve got a mini-Sephora in your own household, how do you ever decide what to put on your face each day? That my friends, is a question I’m asked often. I’m also asked how I find time to even put on a full face on a daily basis. The answer is:  I keep it simple

I’m very fortunate to have a lot of choice when it comes to makeup but for everyday work makeup, my routine is really simple. Experimentation is for the weekend.

More often than not, I choose neutral colours for my eyes and I keep it very understated. No smokey or heavily lined eyes here; I like to keep the focus on my lips. Naturally. For eye makeup, I love the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, which I use at least three times a week. I also have go-to MAC neutral shades (Satin Taupe, Woodwinked, Arena, Soba, Ricepaper, Soft Brown etc.) and NARS favourites (Ashes to Ashes, Ondine, Alhambra). More often than not, I line my upper eyelid with a black gel liner (MAC Blacktrack or Bobbi Brown Caviar Ink), and top it with the mascara of the day.

My cheeks also tend to be understated though I do switch up my blush based on my lipstick choice. Current favourites are on the neutral side: Tarte Exposed (a new favourite!), and NARS Douceur.

That’s it. Easy peasy. I can literally do this in less than 10 minutes.  It  might not seem exciting for some but for me, it works and ultimately that’s what matters, right?

Do you have a go-to look for work?
