Here’s to makeup purging and rediscovering old favourites!

Well hello there my friends. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I have been on a makeup purge lately, getting rid of things I haven’t touched in years or things that I’ve kept as ‘collectibles’ versus serving any real purpose at all and simply taking up more space than needed.

Ironically, at the same time, I’ve been coveting some new items lately (I’m looking at you NARS Audacious lipsticks!) but have managed to stay strong and resist the urge to haul. I’m not sure how long my willpower will last however as I’ve found some newfound room in my makeup drawers given all the purging I’ve been doing. During my makeup purging, I’ve stumbled upon goodies that I have forgotten. You know you have too much when…

One of these rediscoveries was a YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick called Ultimate Beige.

I’ve been wearing this one a lot lately in between wearing the reds, wine and bright pinks I typically wear during Fall. This colour is a lovely neutral nude colour that doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing concealer on my lips. Continue Reading

This Week in Makeup: A little bit of MAC, YSL and Shu Uemura

I’ve been overwhelmed lately…and it’s not just work. It’s makeup. I know…first world problem right? So during the past week or so, I’ve been trying to give some love to the collection, reviving some old favourites and testing out things I totally forgot I had.

Two lipsticks grabbed my attention on more than one occasion. First is MAC’s Hot Tahiti lipstick, an unsung hero when it comes to MAC lipsticks. This one has been around for years, and I only picked it up in the last six months or so. I love it. It’s a warm rosy red with the most wonderful sheen. Worth a look if you’re in the market for a great daytime red.

The other lipstick I gravitated towards was more of a neutral, warm pink: YSL Rouge Volupte Perle #104, (my previous reviews are here and here). I’ve called this one of my go-to lipsticks in the past and I can see why I loved it then, and now  – it feels amazing on, and looks great for every day.

Aside from lipstick, I also started reaching more for metallic eyeshadows such as ME Olive471  eyeshadow by shu uemura. Here’s a link to my review. I love wearing this just as a wash on my lids with lots of mascara. Easy, almost smoky look but still very work appropriate in my view.

How’s your week been when it comes to makeup?

You had me at ‘Coral’, YSL!

If a lipstick has the word ‘Coral’ on it, I am a goner. Sold. Guaranteed. I have not met a coral I didn’t love. And love is a word I have to use (again) in relation to these two new lipsticks* from YSL: Coral Incandescent and Coral In Touch.

Both Rouge Volupte Shines, these have a sheen to them that is pure gorgeousness (I know this is not a word but it seems so appropriate). It feels and looks luxurious.

Lipstick Diary: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Golden Lustre #114

Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks are a weakness of mine. I can’t help it. From the packaging to the product, YSL lipsticks have never let me down. Lately, I’ve been enamoured with the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Golden Lustre in Rose de Saba* (#114). Part of the reason is the colour. It is unlike most colours you see me sporting on this blog.

It’s good to mix it up, right?

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain #28

A new month, a new lip colour. And it’s from YSL’s Spring collection: *Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain #28.

Upon first glance, #28 might seem like more of a Fall colour. It’s a brick red that has a lot of depth. Gorgeous. I fell head over heels in love on first swatch.

The formulation is amazing. It’s not sticky, it’s highly pigmented and feels divine to wear. Since I tried these initially, I’ve seen a number of companies launch similar offerings but to me, they aren’t the same as these. These Glossy Stains are splurge-worthy.

Stay tune for more on YSL’s Spring collection, including another Glossy Stain and a lipstick (of course!).
