A Word about Makeup Purging

I have managed to do what I thought would be impossible. I purged a lot of makeup from an  out of control collection.Over the past six months, I’ve been letting go and it’s been liberating! As a result, I’m resdiscovering old favourites, finding products I totally forgot I had, and more importantly, I’m falling in love with this whole thing once again. I finally feel I can finally get back to the business of blogging, and not just focus on Instagram.

I still have a lot of work to do. I don’t mean to sound like I’m boasting but I have more makeup to last a lifetime or two lifetimes. Remember, I’ve been blogging for almost 8 years so it’s years of personal collecting/hoarding combined with press samples, which I was fortunate to receive (which thankfully slowed down in volume when I stopped blogging regularly). I can still get rid of more. And I know I can.

There’s something very refreshing about culling the collection and only keeping things that I really love or things I will actually wear. So good-bye bright green eyeshadows and lipsticks that make me look like the Walking Dead, and hello to things that make me feel great and spark a little bit of joy when I slap it on my face.

What’s new with you? Do you purge your makeup at all?

Michelle! Welcome back! I recently also went on a makeup purge and back to the blogging world – there was just too much to use! Glad you’re rediscovering old faves – can’t wait to hear about them! 🙂

Welcome back, I’m glad to see your post 🙂 I have a lot of make up, too, but somehow I suspect it’s nowhere near your collection lol My daughter, coworkers and friends get a lot of stuff given to them so I sort of work my way through the piles, drawers, containers etc to thin it out. Looking forward to your future posts? Please?! 😀

Thanks Shannon! My family, friends and coworkers also benefit from the ‘makeup fairy’ on many an occasion. LOL. I’ve got a few posts in my head so hoping to get it all written this weekend.

    Hi! Nice blog.

I do purge. In fact, 2-4 times per year, I take out all of my makeup and lay it out on tables, to inspect, clean, re-organize for seasonally appropriate usage, and to cull. This year’s big cull hasn’t happened yet but even so, I’ve been letting go of lots of older makeup that is cluttering up my cases, and even more of newer stuff I bought to try and disliked or found to be substandard.

It’s hard to part with colors I know I’ll never find again, so sometimes I keep an item just to remind me of a shade I’m hoping to find again in a new form; like the Revlon Moondrops Gemsmoke lipstick, in a special limited, luminous formulation, that I bought in the late 80s.

I also found some colors I forgot I had, which is totally due to sorting out junk to toss. Bonus!

Thanks for checking out my blog! That’s great you purge that often – I need to do the same. It is nice to be able to find things you forget you have or dupes of things.
