A Fork In the Beauty Blogging Road

Whoa. Talk about an extended blogging hiatus.

I’ve been in the midst of a job change, along with an always busy family life. I’ve also been taking time to think about blogging and about the direction of LipstickRules in the future. I’ve come to a fork in the road with blogging — one path is an end to blogging, and the other path is a longer, different road.

I have chosen the longer, different road.  I’m up for the challenge.

Having done this for five years and counting, I feel a need to shift gears and try to inject some new life into the blog, and re-energize my passion for it. In the last little while I lost my blogging mojo, preferring to be more of an observer than a participant. I often felt I couldn’t keep up with other bloggers who were writing great pieces of content on a daily basis. I finally lost steam after years of trying to juggle it all.

But after taking a step back, I realized I don’t need to keep up. I can go at my own pace.

I’ve started brainstorming new ideas on direction, and I’m excited again.

So here I am. I hope that you’ll continue to join me on my journey.

glad to have you back. I understand your struggle. I have a had a really hard year personally and have been feeling like I’ve lost my voice when it comes to my blog. I just don’t know anymore. I just figure I need to keep on writing about what I want and not what others are doing.
But as I said, glad to have you back and I’m sure whatever you write will always be awesome, just like you

Thanks Jill! I appreciate your support. I agree with you — it’s about writing what you want and focusing less on what others are doing. I found for a while I was feeling disheartened because I couldn’t keep up with all the reviewers and couldn’t attend events like everyone else. I then realized I do what works for me and focus on that, and all the while try to find my voice again.

Isn’t it interesting how so many bloggers are questioning themselves recently? I have as well and having a crazy work schedule these days I have no other choice than to slow down a little but I love it too much to stop, for now at least. For a short while I tried to keep up but no more. I do my own thing which makes me happy and the bonus is it seems to please so that’s nice.

Glad to know you’re getting your blogging mojo back and can’t wait to read future posts! xoxo

Thanks Icaria. I think a lot of this stems from how many blogs are out there now compared to a few years ago. How do you stand out? How do you keep up? Your point about doing your own thing and sticking to that is a good motto!

I’m glad to read that you’ve concluded that comparison is the thief of happiness and more importantly decided to continue blogging by your own rules & standards. I look forward to continuing to read your thoughts :)

I’m glad you’re not giving up! I love reading your thoughts and blog.
This summer will be busy for me and my family. Moving Marky to California will take time, and I’ll have to take a long break from blogging. At first I was scared of that, but honestly I don’t care. I’m tired, and feel like I’m in a rut as well.

Thank you, Tracy. Exciting times ahead of you — and Marky! I don’t think we should ever feel afraid to take a break once and a while.

Blogging at your own pace is where it’s at! I tried to keep up with the Jones’s (Joneses?? Oy) for a bit when I first started blogging but it became more of a chore that was keeping me from doing other things I enjoy than what it was supposed to be: an enjoyable hobby. Kudos to you for continuing down the path at your own speed and not feeling the need to post if you’re not feeling it that day/week! Do what works for you, lady! We’ll all be here to support you. Much love!

    @ShannoninBC… +1!

Michelle, always enjoy your content, how often its updated. Its clear that you blog because you have a genuine passion for sharing your beauty experiences, which may be different than other bloggers’ intentions. Your joy for lipstick is evident with every post and I’l keep reading as long as you’re posting :)
