I love looking back in time. Call me sentimental. So for me, one of the best parts of blogging is having a digital archive of my writing but also, get this…selfies! Am I right?!

The pic below on the left was taken in late 2009 — the days before I was fully active on Twitter, had a Facebook and Instagram account for this blog. Young and carefree I was. I was still on the path to self-discovery and gaining confidence both personally and professionally. The blog gave me that opportunity to experiment and go out of my comfort zone. Can you see it in my eyes? ;-)

The pic on the right is someone who is more sure of things and of herself. That’s what happens when you’re in your 40s.

It’s funny scrolling back through the archives. I can really see how I was developing as a person, and as a blogger — and trying to find my voice. From a confidence standpoint, it took me ages to start taking photos of myself and even looking at those early pics now, I can see just how uncomfortable I was putting my face out there onto the big ole Internet. My writing evolved from stream of consciousness writing to full-on heavy duty reviewer. I’m started to go back to my roots, searching for the next phase of LipstickRules as I head into my fifth year of blogging in 2014.

As for style, I think I’m finally feeling good about it — I know what works for me and what doesn’t. Maybe I’m a tad more high maintenance. But it’s fun, and that’s all that counts, right?

Do you ever look back?
