We’re Lip Twinsies: Glitter Geek & I feature looks using MAC Russian Red and Chanel Fatale

When I featured MAC Russian Red lipstick with Russian Red lipgloss a month or so ago, I told my friend Arianne from the fabulous blog, Glitter Geek, that she needed Russian Red. This is how we tend to roll, i.e. we encourage each other to buy, buy, buy…but only products that we deem ‘looks good on us’ since our colouring and taste in makeup is very similar. I was pleased to hear that she ended up getting the lipstick and loved it! What transpired next was so typical of me. I then tried to persuade her to get the Chanel gloss too. She, the more rational one, said she already had Chanel’s Fatale lipgloss and that it was very similar.

Of course, upon hearing this from my trusted friend, I looked up the gloss and decided that I needed to get this Chanel Fatale lipgloss…stat!  I felt giddy with excitement at the prospect of new Chanel! But stop the presses.

Being the good friend that she is, Arianne gently reminded me that I already had Fatale and that it was I, who actually ‘enabled’ her to buy that gloss in the first place. Ooops!

You know you have too much makeup when…..right?!

So, as you can imagine, I’m thrilled I have this combination. After having a good laugh about it, we also thought it would be fun to create a look around this combination. We’re calling it Lip Twinsies!

My Lip Twinsies look is a ‘Glama Mama on the Go.’  I’m believe that a little red lipstick and gloss can really transform a basic look into something that has a little more oomph. This kind of colour combo isn’t just for the younger set or for evening. It can be worn anywhere such as I have on outings with my family.

Here’s what I used:

  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup B40 (beige)
  • YSL Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils in Black
  • MAC Eyeshadows – Arena and Woodwinked
  • Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Cream Blush in Honey
  • MUFE Smokey Lash in Extra Black
  • MAC Redd Lip liner
  • MAC Russian Red lipstick
  • Chanel Rouge Allure Lipgloss in Fatale (#61)

Russian Red (left); Fatale (right)

From the above swatches, you can see the colours are very similar.

Here I’m only wearing Russian Red alone.

Once you add Chanel Fatale, which is a high gloss gloss, it’s ka-pow – instant statement lip.

This combo reminds me of my Cynthia Rowley leather purse that I recently bought from Peacock Parade. It was normally almost $400 but was featured for around $120. Score!

Here’s how I wore it overall (Excuse the pose, I’m so not a fashion blogger!)

I had so much fun with this and I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks Arianne for being such a good friend — and keeping me on track with my lip purchases ;-)
