The Lipstick That Stays On. Seriously. Maybelline SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick in Eternal Rose

You know I love lipstick. But even I, ms. Lipstick junkie, can’t think of a reason why I’d want to wear lipstick for 14 hours? At least that was my initial thought when I saw Maybelline’s new Super Stay 14 Hour Lipsticks.

I had many assumptions before trying these lipsticks. First, I assumed they would be dry and not comfortable. I also assumed they would be matte in finish.

You know what they say about assuming right?

I was more than pleasantly surprised. I tried one colour so far out of three I was able to test. My first choice was Eternal Rose (020), a bright pink. Surprised? You shouldn’t be ;-) This colour has my name written all over it. It is a beautiful pink that doesn’t lean too warm or too cool — a perfect tone of pink for spring.

On the lips, it doesn’t feel like a creamy lipstick but it doesn’t feel like a matte lipstick either. I think they do feel thicker but it isn’t uncomfortable even during hours of wear. Once applied on the lips, it settles in and your lips look creamy though they might not feel creamy. The effect isn’t matte either, at least for this colour. Once this is on your lips, it does not budge.

I put it on one afternoon, took some photos, proceeded to make a spaghetti and meatball dinner — and then ate the dinner with my family. The lipstick did not budge (see lip picture below – the after!).  At the end of the day, I tried to wipe off with a Kleenex and it hardly budged. I then used makeup remover and it still did not move much. After vigorous scrubbing, I got most of it off but I did see a noticeable stain on my lips even the next day. All in all I probably got 7 hours of wear. I’m convinced it would have stayed on longer if I gave it a chance but the thought of wearing lipstick all night was not appealing (and my husband would not have appreciated it either ;-)

I have to say a lipstick’s lasting power isn’t an important feature for me personally but I do see why it would appeal to some women.  I think it’s a great feature if you don’t like to reapply lipstick or if you have a special occasion where you want a lipstick that doesn’t budge even after eating…or kissing.

I’m interested to see if the other two colours feel the same or have the same effect. In the meantime, I’m pleased with having Eternal Rose in my repertoire.  After all, a girl can’t have too many bright pink lipsticks, can she?

What do you say about long-lasting lipsticks? Important or not for you?
