Qs 4 U: How Do You Choose Your Makeup…and How Do You Remember What You Have?
It’s no secret among those that know me that I have a lot of makeup.
Not trying to be boastful at all. Just the facts. I have a problem you know.
I’ve been asked lately how I’m able to choose from what I have, and how I remember what I have. The answers? It all depends, and sometimes I do forget.
When it comes to how I choose products for a look, sometimes I reach for what I see first and base a look around the first product I select. Other times, it’s more planned out such as if I see a look on YouTube that I want to try or I have a lipstick colour, for example, that I want to build a look around. My choices can also be based on what I’m wearing or what it’s like outside. That is what is amazing about makeup – the possibilities really are endless.
As for how remembering what I have? Let’s just call that a work in progress. I’ve been making more of an effort to go through my collection, and purge or put into ‘rotation’ some of my old-time favorites. I’ve thought about creating a chart but even though I’m a Type A personality, I think this even for me is too extreme — and simply too much work
So instead, I’ve decided to pick out a few favorites at the beginning of every week and try to use these during the week.
Over to you: how do you choose based on what you have? And if you have a lot, how do you keep track of it all?

I tend to choose my new make up to use so I think if a look that incorporates that. Or if I want to use something I have been neglecting, I’ll work my other items around it. I have 6 bottles if foundation, I rotate them every week.

I choose my makeup depending on what I’m wearing, where I’m going, and my mood. I’ve started taking out seven lipsticks a week so that I make sure to use ones I’ve forgotten about. x

It’s like Wheel Of Fortune!!!!!! for me. I just pick something out and go from there. I also try to use something that’s been hiding under the wheel.

Even though I have too much makeup, I tend to wear the same thing every day. Once in a while I change eyeshadow, but it’s still on the very natural side. I change lipsticks more often, but that will never ever ever change. I do loves me some lippies.

I keep Excel spreadsheets on everything, I keep them in a binder with tabs that I call “My Makeup” and i’m constantly updating and changing the sheets out. The tabs are Foundations, Bronzers/MSF, Blushes, Lipsticks, Lip Glosses, Eyeshadows, Pigments, Eyeliners/Paintpots, Brushes and Makeup Tips

I’ve been trying to purge and control my purchases since last month. If keeping a list of my stock is being Type A, then that’s me. It helps me keep track of the oldest product. Right now, on my counter is a cleanser, mascara, face powder, shadow palette, blush, red lipstick, pink lipstick, nude lipstick, etc…and am vowing to finish them. So far four containers in the trash – so going well, dontcha think??

i think the idea of picking out a few favourites at the beginning of the week would really help ‘rotate products’. will definitely try it.
i’m one of those people, if i like a new song, i will listen to it on repeat until i learn the lyrics and it drives others around me insane! it’s kind of the same with makeup, i’ll wear a lipstick until i’ve almost run out or find a new favourite.

i have an OK amount of make up i think.. enough to lost track occasionally but not enough to get lost forever XD I usually pick up whatever I need to use for whatever event it’s for (that shows how often i use makeup) & every once in a while i’ll remember a long lost make up item from YEARS ago.. like 5+ XD

My make up depends on my feelings at the moment when I make-up but usually I used to make-up depending on what I am wearing.

I choose it based on my clothing color primarily, occasion and mood secondarily. I don’t own enough to forget what I have, it’s all in 1 drawer in the bathroom plus my lip colors on my dresser.

I realized that I may just have a bit too much makeup, so I’m in the process of purging my collection. Gifting things I absolutely never use and will never use. Now it is organized so that I can see everything at once and has an equal chance of being used i.e all eyeshadows-palettes, singles, duos etc are in one drawer. In the mornings I just open it and pick something.
