How a Lipstick Change Can Make All the Difference
There are some days when I put on a lipstick and…I don’t feel it. The lipstick can be one I love but for one reason or another, it is not doing anything for me on that particular day. Case in point, MAC’s Nude Rose, a lovely milky pink. I put it on today thinking it was a nude lip kind of day. Wrong. Total #fail in my books.
It was a grey cold day today, and when I looked in the mirror, this lipstick made me feel blah. Who needs blah in January? Not me! Yes, I realize I could have pumped up the rest of my makeup to make me look more alive. But that was more work than I wanted to do, and looking for an easy way out, it was time to…find another lipstick! Off I ran to rummage through da collection and I came up with today’s winner: another MAC lipstick, one called On Hold. Voila, a total transformation. I’m alive! Yipee! Have you checked out this lipstick? It is soo pretty. Why don’t I wear it? Must fix that.
A lipstick really can make all the difference. Don’t you think?
Speaking of on hold, I haven’t had a hair cut in months. I need a new stylist and I am procrastinating. Gotta love it.
How has your week in makeup been?

OMG you are my twin! I was meeting family members for Thanksgiving dinner a month or so ago, and I wanted a natural look because we were eating at 3 PM (e.g., broad daylight). I forget what lipstick I chose, but when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror before leaving, I thought YUCK. Corpseface. So guess what I reached for? Yup, MAC On Hold! And my face instantly came alive. I have to say that is one of my favorite new colors from 2011, and the most surprising, as well, since I don’t love MAC lipstick.
I wore it today, and boy, does that color stain! I’ll wake up with raspberry lips tomorrow morning.
Great choice, Michelle. You look divine. : )

It’s such a great colour isn’t it?! I haven’t worn it in ages and so glad I dug it up. Happy new year to you btw!

that is a great color on you! It definitely makes you look more “brighten up”!
Lipstick does make a huge difference, especially when the weather is dark and gloomy and makes your skin appears “different”.
I have recently worn a similar, but richer color paired with illamasqua’s Morale blusher and just mascara….I felt like a celebrity on the red carpet. Eh, if only I didn’t have such a horrible tooth..

Thanks Lydia! It’s amazing to me how a colour can change a look entirely even if the rest of the face stays the same. I love that Moral blusher. What is wrong with your tooth?

Well I love both but you know when I saw the thumbnail picture of the nude on my dashboard I thought WOW! You could totally rock the sixties heavy liner/nude lip look, it really suits you!
That said, I totally understand how you feel. I frequently have those days where I’ve picked the wrong colour and have to change!

Lipstick really can make all the difference! I tend to choose colors based on my outfit, the season, and/or the occasion. I love your second choice! x

I so agree, lipstick is an absolute lifesaver!! I tend to dislike myself greatly without some form of bright lippie on, only select nude lippies work on me. On Hold looks amazing on you!
Jan 05, 2012 @ 18:39:46
it really does make a huge difference…on hold totally suits you!!!
Jan 05, 2012 @ 18:53:04
On Hold is totally your colour! Looks good on us. Ha!
You can totally pull off the first lipstick with the right eye makeup, though! Smoky eye and a rosy lip liner should do the trick.
I know it’s totally far from you (actually it right around where I live) but I recently went to Prive Hair Gallery http://www.privehairgallery.com/home/ and I had a great experience. I think I’ll be going there regularly now.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 15:00:35
Do you have this colour? It does look good on us. LOL. I would love to go to Prive but I need something close

You are definitely a bright lip girl my friend! I think lipstick is definitely the easiest way to brighten up the dulls of winter. Lately that’s what I’ve been doing-been to lazy to do all the blending and such with a bunch of eyeshadows. And I just finally got my hair done after 2 months of neglect! I know how you feel.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 15:01:28
Thanks lady! Love your hair.
Jan 05, 2012 @ 20:48:03
Wow. It really does make a difference :O Idk, I always thought lipsticks were for the more mature and/or daring kind of people. I’m still to scared to go near any for fear of looking like a clown or applying it wrong and having an awkward moment with people telling me I have lipstick on my teeth.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 15:02:26
You can do it Jennifer! Start off a with a light balm like lipstick and ease into it
Jan 05, 2012 @ 20:52:23
completely agree michelle. colour is a very powerful mood changer, the perfect pink or red lipstick can makes walk with a little bit more confidence.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 15:02:43
Loving all the colours you’ve been wearing on your blog lately Faye!
Jan 06, 2012 @ 12:11:46
Michelle that nude colour actually looks really good on you! Maybe go a little smokier on the eye and yes you’re good to go! But the 2nd lipstick does really make you look alive. Give you that perfect warmth to your face!
I liked this post!
Jan 06, 2012 @ 15:03:12
Thanks Donna Marie – agree re: smokier eyes. Wish I wasn’t so lazy. LOL.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 14:09:01
I totally agree! There are days when I feel awful or need to deal with a client or situation that just plain sucks so I force myself to wear a beautiful red or dark crimson shade to feel powerful. Colour is a very powerful thing!
Jan 06, 2012 @ 14:43:28
I’m with you! I wore red lipstick today for the same reason!
Jan 07, 2012 @ 10:39:58
I love On Hold on you! I definitely go for lipsticks that make my face look alive even if I’m not wearing any other makeup (although that would never happen, LOL.) To me, a lipstick is something that should brighten me up, even if it is a sheer shade.
Jan 07, 2012 @ 23:17:04
I totally know what you mean about the lipstick thing! I can use it one day and absolutely love it and hate it the next day. Weird…
