Holy Brushes Batman…and Other Random Thoughts
Looking at all these brushes, you would think they are for more than one person. Alas, no. It’s all used for one face — mine. I know I’m not alone when it comes to this. Right?
Apologies for the messiness – but heck as Jenny Sue always says, I’m keeping it real peeps.
Not that long ago, I remember having four brushes – three for eyes, one for blush and another for powder (a MAC #1 from the 1990s!). Brushes suddenly started coming home with me the more I watched YouTube. Yes, I blame Pixiwoo for my downfall.
The other reason is simply….laziness. I loathe, and I mean loathe, washing brushes. Yes, yes, I know it isn’t that hard. But if I can get away with it I do, hence the reason why I buy multiples of brushes. I’m also fortunate that in recent times, I’ve been sent a few too. I’m trying though to stay on top of spot cleaning every other day and deep cleaning once a week.
Not much else to say about this – just something that struck me whilst doing my makeup the other day.
Speaking of how I’m doing my makeup lately…I’ve been really into wearing heavy black liner and glossy lips, as in lip gloss! Imagine. The last week or so I’ve been rocking the lipglosses — and actually loving it.
I’m still not loving the darkness in the mornings which is seriously putting a crimp in my ability to take pics for the blog. Case in point the pic above. It had to be taken with flash and anytime that happens I get sleepy eye look. Weird.
Moving on…
It’s been a busy busy few days for me which is why I’ve been missing in action. I’ve been so tired that the only thing I have energy to do after the kids are in bed is to plop on the couch, read/watch tv or Tweet.
That doesn’t mean there’s been no catching up on blogs, and also new products. I finally got my hands on the Naked Palette 2 (woot!) and the Revlon Lip Butters. Thanks Simone! More on these later as well as my new-found love for balm-like lip products like the one from Chantacaille I reviewed a while back.
I’m totally rambling tonight aren’t I?
How’s your week been?

I know what you mean about the brushes. I think I use really only 5 tops. And I wash mine after every use! I should purge some of them.
I like you bedroom eyes wink wink nudge nudge.

Lookin’ good mama!
Love the heavy eyeliner on you!
I know what you mean about the brushes. My personal brushes get the once-in-a-while spray of a brush cleaner, and that’s really when I’ve used something so pigmented on them that it’ll contaminate another pan if I don’t. So lazy!!!

Thanks lady! I am loving my new camera that actually let me take a close pic. Woot!

I love brush too and have quite a few, every one of them have a purpose.
My favorite is the eyes smudge brush from Nars, and you?
Jan 17, 2012 @ 21:40:43
Hi Manon – I have a few favorites – the MAC 217, and an old eyeliner brush from Make Up For Ever. I haven’t tried the smudge brush from NARs. Do I need it?
Jan 17, 2012 @ 21:46:50
Michelle, I think you need it
Perfect for the smokey eyes. I use it under the eyes, no messiness promise. I will try to make a post this weekend about my favorite brushes.
Jan 17, 2012 @ 21:56:15
Manon! You’re supposed to say no you have too many. LOL. Can’t wait to read your post.
Jan 17, 2012 @ 21:48:08
The 217 is a staple. I love it!
Jan 17, 2012 @ 22:06:57
I know what you mean with the brushes. I had two only a few years ago & now you’d think I was a pro makeup-artist
Jan 17, 2012 @ 22:09:49
I was going to write that in my post too Monica. But then I thought of my makeup artist blogger friends and I know their brushes wouldn’t look like that. LOL
Jan 17, 2012 @ 22:27:43

I did a post not too long ago about my obsession with brushes. I just can’t get enough of them! But I am the opposite of you…I absolutely LOVE cleaning and washing my brushes! Even if I have to wash all 100+ brushes that I have…hahaha! Since you loathe cleaning them feel free to send them my way for washing! lol

The brush thing… I don’t even like USING brushes and I have two jars full of brushes. And I’ve been thinking of getting more. Ugh.
I noticed that it wasn’t pitch dark when I was coming home from work today. Soon the light shall return!
Jan 19, 2012 @ 21:16:55
I think we all fuel each other and our need for more. LOL. I hope the light returns!
Jan 19, 2012 @ 08:34:24

Jan 19, 2012 @ 21:17:13
Yay! Glad I’m not alone.
Jan 19, 2012 @ 11:10:30
Holy moly, that is a lot of brushes! I have about half that amount and do a group wash of them maybe once a month because bacteria freaks me out. What lipgloss are you wearing in that photo? Great colour.
Jan 19, 2012 @ 21:17:58
I heard that any eye brushes you should wash daily. Ooops! I am going to try. I think I’m wearing a Burberry lipgloss. I should have written it down! Next time!
Jan 19, 2012 @ 22:32:52
What is it about brushes? They do seem to make little brush babies and multiply. A few years ago, I had a half dozen and used 3 every day. Now I have an ridiculous amount of brushes (probably well over 50) and guess what? I still use just a few every day. Maybe 5 now. I need to get rid of some pronto.
Oh, and I am a lazy brush person. I don’t wash them after each use unless I am using cream-based products. I wipe my powder brushes on a latex sponge and get most of the powder out. I figure I’m helping the brushes last longer, but if I have 50 who cares! There’s another one waiting to take its place.
Jan 22, 2012 @ 16:22:41
Glad to hear I’m not alone Zuzu!
Jan 22, 2012 @ 03:23:37
Your posts are always a joy to read
omg, that’s a massive brush collection.. i hope mine can become that big =D i have pretty much a basic ‘set’ of brushes… one of those packs you get.. haha, it’s not affordable enough to get multiples of brushes here! Do you have any affordable brushes you could recommend for a semi-beginner?
i’m getting into eyeshadows but im not sure which ones are the best to use?
Jan 22, 2012 @ 16:23:22
Hi Jennifer – yes, I do have some basics that I reach for each time. Let me include it as part of a post. I will clean the brushes before showing
Jan 23, 2012 @ 08:39:29
One can never have too many make up brushes! lol. I am actually on the hunt for a brand new set since my dog keeps finding a way to snatch them and chew them to pieces.. sigh… I have also beeing into lining my eyes with darker pencil these days. I have always used gel liner, but using pencil gave my eyes a bit of a softer look. I loved it.. Have a great day!
