Guest Post: It’s like Butter baby!

A guest post from my resident Guest blogger/friend, the ever-lovely Cher (@_CherLee_). Let me just say, I need these in my life. That is all.

I’m a gal who is rarely seen with naked nails- so imagine my excitement upon receiving  not one, but TWO Butter London nail polishes as Christmas gifts this year (the packaging is super attractive, the square lid pops off to reveal a round brush top).

“The Black Knight” is a limited edition colour and truly lives up to the hype. I had trouble capturing its awesomeness in this photo but it is a black based shade with blue/pink/purple glitter that shows up differently in every light. Its definitely the glitter bomb you’d expect from looking at the bottle, but the darker tone makes it very wearable and surprisingly subtle. Given my experience with other glitters (I’m looking at you, Deborah Lippman), I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to remove and that it only needed one layer of top coat to smooth out. Took three coats to achieve opacity.

“Knees Up” was also a winner; I usually don’t prefer metallics but this gorgeous red foil was stunning on and reminded me of a Hershey Kiss wrapper. Perfectly festive for the holidays or cocktail hour. Took two coats to achieve bottle colour, and I was really impressed at how smooth and streak-free application was for a metallic.

Both were applied with my usual formula of OPI Natural Nail Base Coat and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat (the HG… is there any other?).

Overall, I’m pleased with these polishes. The lighter formula and thin brush make application a breeze, but the staying power could use some work. Chipping set in after 2-3 days of wear, while my usual Essie can last up to 5-7 days. So while I appreciate their “3 Free” formula and would definitely splurge on Butter London for specialtyshades like these two, the $17 price tag means I’ll stick to Essie or OPI for my regular go-to shades.

Have you tried Butter London polishes?
