What Ever Possessed Me to Buy These Lipsticks, and A Reader Challenge
There are lipsticks in my collection that I look at and think: what ever possessed me to get this?! I know at one point or another, I just HAD to have these colours. In reality, these lovely lipsticks have sat waiting in the wings, and have never experienced the spotlight. Poor things.
The four lipsticks in question today are from MAC: Up the Amp, Blooming Lovely, Lady Gaga, and HoneyLove.
Both Up the Amp and Blooming Lovely have that purple-lilac tinge that never feels right with my complexion. It is probably because they are very cool-toned, which is precisely what is wrong with Lady Gaga and me. Honeylove looks like just plain old concealer on my lips, not very becoming at all.
I could give them away or sell them but I won’t. I’m too much of a collector. Instead, my challenge is to find ways to make these (and a few other colours in my collection) work. Over the next couple of weeks, I will share these looks with you. Oh wait, here’s a twist: I’m challenging you as well.
Have you picked up colours that you never wear? Interested in challenging yourself to find a way to make it work? If you are, send me your pictures at lipstickrules (at) gmail dotcom by June 30, include a brief description of the product (lipsticks or lipgloss only) and how you made it work. The reward? I will feature your pic and your blog in an upcoming post, and who knows there may be a prize (or two!) for a randomly selected challenge participant.

I love the look of Up The Amp, but every time I go to buy it I chicken out because I have no idea what to wear it with. Looking forward to nabbing some of your ideas and making it work for me!

it's funny I own all of these (except for Gaga, but i have and adore both Snob and st Germain) and i wear them all a lot, lol! I have the opposite complexion from you
Honeylove is one of my fave nudes…haha
I'm interested in this challenge, I usually giveaway anything that doesn't work right away (hello MAC Chatterbox l/s), but I will dig my stash and find something to participate

This sounds like an awesome challenge. I think the bigger challenge is for me to find one is my stash that gave me the biggest headache! I have quite a few "what the hell was I thinking" lipsticks hiding in my bathroom!

I look terrible in cool, blue-toned lipsticks like the ones you've pictured, and stay well away! They make me look like death!

They look gorgeous on your hand, but I doubt they would work for me either. The challenge sounds cool, I think I'll try if it I remember

Yah some colours look great swatched and then when I wear them…not so much.

I have Gaga and I wear it from time to time but I seem to go up and back with it–between liking it a lot and wondering what in the hell I was thinking.
I'm definitely going to think about this challenge… The MAIN "why did I buy this" lip product in my collection is Peacocky. I mean, I know why I bought it–I loved the *idea* and there was a lot of hype about it… That's enough to get me. But I only wore it when I first got it just to see what it looked like on my lips. If I have some time where I feel like playing in my makeup, I'll try to devise a Peacocky look

I LOVE honey love. So pretty.

I usually end up giving away colors to friends that don't work on me, or selling them if people want them.
