Why did I buy these? MAC Liberty Of London lipsticks

I fell for the hype around MAC’s Liberty of London this week. I had tested out Birds & Berries prior to the launch and really loved the colour and packaging. And when I saw the rest of the collection, I have to admit that aside from the packaging, nothing jumped out at me at first. But as I played with the colours and started swatching, I started to feel that pull…you all know what I’m talking about.

At the end, I brought home two lipsticks — Blooming Lovely (a creamy grey lilac mauve) and Petals & Peacocks (creamy bright magenta pink). I was excited because I don’t have anything similar to either of these in my collection.

But after I got home, I realized maybe there are reasons why I don’t have these colours already. I developed a serious case of buyer’s remorse for sure.

There’s no question that the colours are lovely. But I would never wear them daily and in the case of Blooming Lovely, I need to use liner and/or gloss to make it work. On its own, Blooming Lovely is not so lovely on me in my opinion.

Blooming Lovely (on its own) — I played around with this and in order to try and make it work for me, I added Pink Treat liner and a bit of brighter pink gloss on top. I also think I’d need to wear dramatic eyes with this lipstick — it’s definitely not a ‘au naturel’ look.

Petals & Peacocks is brighter in person than shown here. I think that for my skintone this is more wearable than Blooming Lovely.

I mixed the two together to see what it would look like. Again tried with Pink Treat liner after (not pictured here) and it makes it more wearable for me.
All in all, I think these lipsticks will stay in my collection. I realize that I do need to do a better job and not get caught up in the hype over a new collection — and select products that are more wearable. How about you — did you get anything lately that you regretted?
