QOTD: Do you buy back-ups?
I’m loving my new Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick. Loving. A part of me wants to buy a back-up. I had heard that these Viva Glams will only be around for a year until the next Viva Glam comes out. My rational self tells me that there will likely be a colour that is close to it if not exact. But my makeup junkie self thinks, what if I don’t? I need this lipstick in my life. Forever. Ok, maybe that is exaggerating.
I’ve never bought a back-up of anything but I know some of you have. What makes a product back-up worthy for you? Do you believe in back-ups? Yay or Nay? Let me know what you think!
Hope you are having a great weekend. We have a long weekend in Ontario — Family Day on Monday!

I belive its much more fun in experimenting with alternatives than obsessing about a particular product. I used to buy backups before but ended up selling them heh. You will find an alternative for sure hun

ohkay I just looked at the cyndi swatch again. You NEED a backup! asap! lol

Fun question! My criteria for buying back-ups is simple: If there's an unbelievable sale on a staple of mine, then I can't pass it up and I'll get a back-up. The only other time I buy a back-up is if it's an LE product and I know for a fact it's going to go away (and I really love it). In that case, a back-up is mandatory for me. I've just been burned too many times with not getting a back-up of an LE product I love, and I never want to feel that way again.
BUT, sometimes I get burned the other way too. In some cases I scramble to buy a back-up of an LE product, only to find out in a few months that it became so popular that the manufacturer decided to make it a part of the permanent collection. I hate it when that happens! lol.

I have back ups of a couple of my favourite limited edition lipsticks such as colour crafted, way to love and equality as i love all of them and i think when they run out i may never be able to get them again!
I will also be getting a back up of the viva glam gaga lipstick as it looks the perfect pink!

I have only ever purposefull bought back ups of one thing, Kanga-Rouge lipstick from the Dame Edna collection, which is my holy grail red lipstick however i have a lot of accidental backups due to me losing a favourite product, buying a new one and then finding the original

I'm much more likely to buy backups of powder products than lips. I have to really love it and feel like there is a reasonable chance I'll finish the first one to buy a back up, even if it's LE.
Feb 13, 2010 @ 18:02:46
I used to buy backups all the time, but not anymore! I found that I never even needed the backup because I never finsihed the original, or that by the time I finished the original product, I was over it.
The only exception is my stereo rose msf backup lol. I will never get over that pot of corally goodness!

I guess I don't really buy back-ups either, seems like I never finish anything! But you should definitely get at least one Cyndi back-up, just in case
Actually, the only thing I do buy back-ups of is my Clinique foaming face wash cleanser (now discontinued). I have like 7 of them under my sink, I don't want to switch to anything else, so I buy them at the Cosmetic Company Outlet stores.

if you use it daily. back it up. otherwise, it's not worth it.. soon you'll get over this lipstick and be hooked on another.

I've never bought a backup but I definitely think it's a smart thing to do if you love something. I've gotten burned a couple of times when my favorite gloss colors got discontinued.
BTW, I think reading your blog is making me become more adventurous with my daily makeup routine!

Thanks for the comments ladies! I'm going to ask my fave MAC makeup artist to see what the situation is with my new beloved Cyndi lipstick and then go from there.
@Sidewalk Chalk: Very cool! Thank you. Reading YOUR blog has given me lots of inspiration to add more exciting pieces to my wardrobe.

@Shifa: LOL – hilarious. Ok done!
Feb 13, 2010 @ 22:47:11
Nahhhhhhhhhh I'm not a back-up kinda a person…because I've never finished anything, and also I like trying new things.
Anddd yay for family day!! Hope you enjoy it!

I've bought one backup in my whole makeup life – it's still sitting in it's packaging waiting patiently to be opened. I get bored of colours easily and I'm a little fickle with my products so I don't bother with backups because I know I wont ever use them.
Feb 14, 2010 @ 00:21:53
GET IT, GET IT, GET IT!!!!!
If it's ANYTHING I've learned, it's always better to be safe than sorry. MAC has a pretty good return policy. At least, just buy the back-up for now and you can still think about it…then return it if you decide that it's not worth having bought it. Rather than REGRETTING that you wanted another back-up and then it's all SOLD out.
I got the Viva Glam Gaga lipstick too. I can't wait to try it out! So far, I've only swatched it on my hands. Eeeek, spring time is going to look so BRIGHT & PINK for me! =D

I believe in backups! If you love it, and it may not be there anymore in the future, I say pick up at least 1 back up!
Feb 14, 2010 @ 08:29:34
I think we always are on to the next best thing… We love it today and it will be replaced with a new love tomorrow! Its takes alot of use to even run out of one tube!
great thought! The color is so pretty!
Feb 14, 2010 @ 09:45:11
I don't buy backups. I'd just rather spend the money on 5 different lipsticks than 5 tubes of the same lipstick!
With the Gaga lipstick I would definitely not get a backup now! Wait and see if you actually use enough to ever need a backup. It'll be around for a year after all, so there's no hurry
Feb 14, 2010 @ 10:39:04
I used to buy backups, but exeriences have taught me that I rarely finished anything. If I do ever see the bottom of a product and it's discontinued, I'll just cry and then move on something else. After all there are so many things out there!!
Feb 14, 2010 @ 11:10:54
hehehe I believe in backups! I do purchase backups for powder foundation!
Feb 15, 2010 @ 05:11:58
No, lol. There's always so much new stuff coming out I know I will be ok. I only buy backups of staples like mascara if they're on sale.
Feb 15, 2010 @ 22:40:26
I have decided against a back-up. I'm very much like Stefanie in that I will surely find a new favorite in no time.
