Olive this Eyeshadow! Shu Uemura Review

First, please excuse the lame title. My poor attempt at trying to come up with a fun post title after a long day. Anyways. Ladies, have you seen a pattern in my posts? I seem to be having another love-in with products in my collection lately. Will simmer down soon. Promise.

Today I’m showcasing Shu Uemura (am I the only one who has trouble spelling this name?) and the eyeshadow is ME Olive 471. A spontaneous purchase thanks to the persuasive Martin. This shadow is gorgeous with a capital G.

This is my one and only Shu shadow and I must say it is impressive. It feels ultra luxurious, very smooth and is VERY pigmented. Although it looks grey, this shadow does have a green undertone to it. After all, it is called OLIVE. In the pan, the shadow looks frosty but it isn’t when applied to the eye. But a little does go a long way ladies — so you can layer as much or as little as you want. This works well as a wash of colour or as part of a smokey eye look.

This colour is very versatile — I’ve used with blues, browns and pinks (not all together though!). Here is a swatch — again the photo doesn’t do it justice as you can’t see all the ‘nuances’ the shadow has in real life. This is one worth seeing in person.

Here is a look I did last week with the shadow. I applied a sheer layer and then blended with a bit of MAC Soft Brown in the crease and then a little mascara. Very understated. I was just hanging out at home with the kids so didn’t feel the need to completely glam it up. To add a little bit of ‘oomph’, all I would add is some black gel liner to the upper lashline and blend out this colour under the eye.

The negatives? The price tag for sure which is hefty at to $30 with tax (yikes!). This was part  of my “it’s my birthday so I can haul haul haul” day. I don’t think though I’ll be adding to my Shu stash any time soon unless I win the lottery.

What about you? Thoughts on Shu shadows?
