50 Days of Lipstick - Day 5 and 6: No Lipstick Love for Lancome Sugared Maple and Bobbi Brown Heather Mauve

My 50 Days of Lipstick Challenge is going well -- it's been fun going through my collection and finding lipsticks that I haven't touched in a long long time. And today I, a true lipstick lover, am going to tell you about two lipsticks I don't love! These are: Lancome's Sugared Maple (a free lipstick I got as part of a GWP) and Bobbi Brown Heather Mauve, a purchase from last year at some point.

First, the Lancome lipstick. I have never bought a Lancome lipstick before. I don't know why really. I'm a big fan of the BiFacil eye makeup remover and I've tried some eyeshadows and skincare which were all nice as well. As for lipstick, not sure why I've never gravitated towards these from this brand. In any case, I found this lipstick in the bottom of my drawer. It looks nice enough in the tube; it's a reddish colour with brown undertones and a sheen to it. It applies smoothly, and was long lasting. But....I do not love it. My issue isn't with formulation but rather with the colour itself. Not very inspiring. What did Iexpect from a gift with purchase? That said, I'm not going to dismiss all Lancome lipsticks because of this. I will make a point of visiting the counter and seeing if there is a colour that calls out to me -- but not until after Day 50 of this challenge.

Next is Bobbi Brown's Heather Mauve, a mauvey brown colour. It is creamy, has a slight scent. But...this is the exact colour of my lips. I don't love it at all. When I bought it, I thought it would be a nice nude colour but it does nothing for me. I find I have to swipe it on my lips over and over to get some pigmentation but then I think, what's the point since it looks like my normal lip colour? I think wearing a clear gloss would have had the same effect on my look today.

So, these two lippies are on my 'out' pile now waiting to be traded or given away to a good home.

My apologies for the not-so-flattering lip pics. I reapplied them and took photos after the kids had gone to bed and after a very long busy day at work.

Have any of you tried Lancome lipsticks? Thoughts? What about Bobbi Brown?

I'd have to agree with you about the colours - not very inspiring indeed! You're hilarious about the photos - I think we'll forgive you for being a busy mom! ;)

The only Lancome lipsticks I've tried are the L'Absolu Rouge which are really moisturizing. They do have some really nice colours but I've only tried Rustique (a nice nude pink) and Rouge Radiance (true red).

I've tried a few Bobbi Brown lippies. I like the Metallic lipstick in Pretty Pink - texture is nice and sheer and leaves a nice shimmer on lips. I also love using the Basics Lip Palette for weddings. The Lip Crayons are really nice too - nicely pigmented and creamy. I have Dusty Nude and Posey - both would show up really nicely on you although Posey can be a bit bright. I use a lot of Bobbi Brown lippies on brides.

The glosses are alright - wish they were bigger and the brushes didn't fray. Don't like the Creamy Lip color - a little tacky.

Good for you for weeding out the bad ones! I actually quite like Lancome Sugared Maple, but like you I've never really been drawn to Lancome for lip products. I think my mom has a few GWP lippies too though.

And ahhh. I think it's kind of amazing that the BB lipstick is EXACTLY your lip color!! But I agree it's kind of pointless to keep it around if it is just exactly your lip color.

I'm like you and never bought any Lancome l/s. I have a few that I got as part of GWP and they are nice colours too. I do love their Hypnose mascara (total HG of mine). That BB l/s looks so cute on you. I want to get some BB l/s as I love her gel liners and shimmer bricks.

Great idea for posts :)

I dont like Bobbi brown lippies too. I find them either too sticky or not so pigmented! I would rather stick to NYX or Mac :)

Thanks for your comment on blog, I appreciate it! Love the 50 Day challenge. I have so many friggin clothes I should do the same thing. Or with shoes, who knows, haha! I feel the same way about nude lipsticks that don't make a different in my face. I like my lip color to brighten me up a bit.

I am loving the 50 day challenge as well. I have 1 BB lipstick in Peony that I LOVE. They used to have this awesome color wheel that you would find out what lipstick was yr exact color (you've already done that!) and based on that find a bunch of extremely flattering colors. It was so good. I found out that NARS Dolce Vita is my exact lip color as well. I love it, but it does just look kind of the same, just subtly shinier...
