There was a time when....

There was a time when I used to...

...keep up with all the MAC collections and felt I had to get at least one product from each collection

...plan out my purchases in advance, scouring through the Beauty Boards and web sites to read any advanced reviews and what people were most excited about and had deemed 'must-haves' from the collection

...stalk my local MAC counters to see when they actually put out the products I was almost desperate to have

But the key words from this is ladies is, "used to." It dawned on me the other day that I feel very differently today about MAC's Limited Edition Collections. For the first time since I can remember, I am actually not super-excited by upcoming product launches nor am I as well-versed as I used to be.

What has happened to this MAC makeup junkie?

Don't get me wrong. I'm a MAC fan through and through -- I have been a MAC customer for more than 15 years and I don't think that's going to change.

But since I've been blogging, and reading so many fantastic blogs from around the world, my eyes have opened up to other makeup lines. I have to admit that I think I'm more excited today about trying out new lines and rediscovering old favorites than I am about what's coming down the pipeline from MAC.

It has finally happened -- the lure of Limited Edition collections from my favorite brand is losing ground with me.

Instead, I am now looking at each new MAC collection with a more critical eye.Rather than buying wanting to buy everything in sight, I plan to only get items that are truly unique additions to my collection. What a relief for my wallet.

How about you -- are you still lured by MAC's latest collections? Do you pay attention and buy from all the new launches?

I was the same as you. I used to look forward to the LE collections MAC released. However, MAC has recently been churning them out every month and the 'fun' in waiting for a LE collection every month just became non-existant.

Yes. I used to feel like I needed one thing from every collection. But I haven't really purchased anything from MAC in the past few months. I feel like the recent collections have been a bit underwhelming.

I love MAC and I think that they're one of the better brands out there but coming out with collections every month can be overwhelming. I am very much open to other brands that keep you wanting more because they keep their collection releases limited but very well thought of.

I feel much the same way, I will always have a place for Mac because they really do delivery quality and variety, but I'm not a one trick pony anymore haha

I have found that lately, I haven't been paying much attention to the MAC LE collections...I just lost interest I guess. But I do feel a little bit guilty for not following it

Definitely not anymore.

I was spending hundreds a month and accumulated a room full of make up and realised I had to spot being fooled by the L/E lure. In fact i now work a cosmetic counter away from my only MAC counter and I dont even bat an eyelid lol! Im marvelled at myself!

Actually, I don't own anything from MAC. It's not a brand i'm specially appealed to ^^

I agree with you 100%. But not just about MAC. I love all the brands that I've been using for a long time but I always want to try something new!

hehe so true gurlie! Even I criticize Mac's collections there more than appreciating them :p I guess we just get over it after a while or may be they just cant grab out attention anymore ;)

After I started blogging, I haven't been that interested in LE's of any brand. I think it's much nicer to use colors that are still available :)

I was the same way. I still keep up with the collections just in case they re promote the one eyeshadaow i can't believe i missed out on Wondergrass..lol

But i don't crazy like i once did, and there are so many other great brands out there.

That's so great though - surely the sign of a true beauty expert?

15 years of being into MAC is a long time! Its surprising that you've only felt this way now. Mmmm I'm still in that phase where I look up swatches and reviews before purchasing products.. even though I don't see it that I 'have' to get at least one from every collection, I still tend to get something from each... I hope the MAC LE lure leaves me soon ~

Thanks for the comments everyone. Seems like a lot of us are thinking along the same lines.

@Princess Livia -- I am definitely surprised it didn't hit me sooner. LOL.

This was me a few months ago. I first "got into" makeup with MAC and I actually got my first lipstick there - Party Line Cremesheen. I definitely still think it's a great brand but there's so much else to be discovered and I've realized that while MAC is pretty good on average, some of my favorite formulas are actually not MAC. Plus... it's pretty exhausting to keep up with all the collections they put out!

Hi, great idea for a post. I wonder how many make-up fanatics started off with MAC. I was an ultimate MAC junkie from the beginning of the company. My first lipstick was Dubonnet. If you looked in my make-up bag, EVERYTHING was MAC. I would always buy something from their seasonal launches. Now, there is just launch after launch. I don't find their products as sophisticated and I think their target is a much younger demographic. Now as I read about other products I love NARS, Urban Decay, Julie Hewett lipsticks, etc. etc. There are a lot of great products out there and I am glad I have broken my MAC "addiction".

I 've been following the MAC collections for almost a year now, but I feel tired of checking out the 3-4 collections a month, seems that this is the amount of collections they are releasing lately...
I will be keeping up with the LE collections, but only under a budget and provided that I don't already own dupes of the products in my collection...
I think that this is the somewhat rational way to go! :)

bravo!!!!! many of us are stuck in our ways, and use only particular brands for face wash, makeup, or whatever and are scared to branch out.

I totally get what you mean. Once I started blogging too I realized how many other brands out there offered products better than MAC. BUt I do get excited everytime new collections come out however having actually swatch and try the products at the counters I end up hardly buying since not all sand out.

BTW, following you now. Love your blog :)

OMG I feel the same way. I used to kill myself trying to grab hold of everything i wanted from the MAC LE's. Now i am so meh about the releases. I think i have missed the last almost 5 or 6 releases from MAC. I would honestly wonder what was wrong. Had I totally outgrown MAC? But no, i think, like you, i have started to try so many other wonderful brands out there and they seem to get me more excited than any of the MAC stuff that has recently been released.

Even looking at the upcoming releases for MAC, I am not really feeling them. Looking more forward to the Chanel, YSL, Givenchy, Guerlain, Le Metier de Beaute and various others to tell you the truth.

:-) love your blog btw.

I definitely know what you mean. I used to rush to the MAC counters/stores when new collections launched, but I've barely bought anything in the last while. I used to stick to primarily MAC products as well, but have been branching out a bit and trying a couple other brands. I'm really liking MUFE, Stila and Benefit!
