It's funny though - sometimes I think pale lips on me makes me look tired. Sometimes when I do wear this look, I can also get comments like "you're looking kind of pale today. Are you okay?" As for the smokey eye, I always think I've overdone it but when I see photos, I can see that I could be braver and make it darker.
So even though I'm not convinced it's the right look for me, I still like to try it out as it is a departure from my 'everyday' look.
Here are a couple of photos with a variation of this look. How about you -- what do you like about the pale/nude lips and smokey eye look? Any tips for me on how to perfect the look?
Products used:
Face: Diorskin Nude 030
Face Powder: Pandora's Makeup Box
Eyes: Casual Friday palette from Pandora's Makeup box for the shadows; Annabelle Ohmygoth liner
Lips: Beaute's Wanted Weightless Lip Creme
Cheeks: Orgasm blush by NARS
In natural light. Can't really see the makeup. I find it interesting that when I look in the mirror I see it as being heavy but when photographed, it looks like I'm not wearing much.
Not sure where I'm looking here but I think I could have done more with my eyes.
Must remember to line the waterline! I adore the Pandora's eye shadows I used here (hard to see- apologies!) they are matte but very creamy and easy to wear. The Beaute lippie in Wanted is really nice. It has a bit of shimmer.

Do you ever do a brown smokey eye? I find it is richer and less harsh than a grey/black smoky eye.
Kudos for trying out something else beyond your everyday look though. Maybe more colour smudged on your lower lash line? I always forget it when I do my smokey eyes.
Do you have a pinky pale lippie? I think it would suit you well. :)
Luv the lip color...very pretty! But I agree, I think you could do more with the eyes...waterline and lower lash line? Keep practicing!!
@Arianne @Mary007 Thanks for the tips ladies! I always forget about lining the waterline. I need to revisit my lesson with Julio Sandino from NARs who told me to 'frame' the eyes.
I like the lippy. Gotta love a nude. A brown smokey would look lovely on you. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Perhaps a funky blush colour with this look?
Exxx
The lips look gorge. What exactly is on them? Such as a shade/color?
ok I figured out what you're wearing..but seriously it looks great!
@Eliza @Arianne: I'm going to try and do the brown smokey look this weekend! Thanks for the tip.
@Spifftiff88: Beaute's Wanted Weightless Lip Creme! Amazing amazing product. Thanks for the compliment! :-)
Hey mama, looks good. Don't forget the lower lashline when you do a smokey. A true smokey eye is darkest closest to the lashlines, top and bottom, so don't be afraid to smudge some of that eyeshadow on the lower lashline too :) I think you'd look amazing with a rich smokey purple (for the evening if you're not ready to do a full out smokey) or a bronze colour (I like MAC's bronze for a simple day wear smokey).
And when it comes to nude lips, don't go lighter than your skintone, stick to something at least a shade or 2 darker than you are...and to avoid the dead look, make sure that you use a lippie with hints of peach or pink in them. Good luck, how daring of you to try something new!
Hey Mama,
Come and do my makeup please? :-)
These are AMAZING tips -- I will give this a shot!
@yorkieluvs: thanks! I just took a look at your blog and found some great inspiration for another variation of this look.
Thanks for the tip! i have Shy Girl -- will need to revisit that lippie.
Wow you look amazing! I love it! I think just a bit on the lower lid would do, basically I agree with all the comments above XD
you know what? You don't look pale, but its just that, if you wear bright colored lipsticks, it makes your overall look brighter than regular! :) you look great with and without lipstick!
Hey hun! I would try some bronzer, bit of blush, lining your lower lashes with the darker shade of your e/s, (unfortunately I can't tell if you're wearing mascara =/). I know what you mean about the natural light blanking you out! Also, a brown smokey eye would work really well for you! A pinker lippie would work for you too :)
Happy Makeup!
I love smokey eyes for the daytime, but I loce trying different colors too! I just did a series, about to finish it, on my blog with the smokey shadow quads from maybelline, they come in great shades and can be made dramatic or soft! :)
Yes, the smokey eye could be darker. But I know how it is too. You look in the mirror and apply and you think, "Yeah, that's dark enough. Don't want to go too far there!" In reality, it isn't that dark! It's almost unnoticeable! Yup, Michelle, I always have the same problem too. :)
I have to say I feel the same about dark eye/pale lip on me, somehow light pinks/beige on my super pigmented lips would usually end up looking as if I was constantly nauseated! But this Beaute lip shade suits you beautifully :)
On a side note, we're heading to Toronto in January for just a couple of days intending to see Niagara Falls, is there anything in the city you'd recommend to visit?
xxx
I want Wanted, I want Wanted...!!!
But I think it's a matter of lighting, on the second photo for example it looks lovely on you! ;)
xoxo
I love this nude look on you too gurl! But I think you look way prettier and fresh with coloured bright lips :) Even I cant pull off bare/nude lips! I look like a corpse lol But you did a much better job!
I look pale too with nude lips but when I add more heavier with a pink blush I look less zombie! :P
I like the neutral look. Have you ever tried a super smoke brown eye with corner lashes? I think you'd look fab. Btw, you can rock a red lip like nobody's business. xxN
