QOTD: Lipgloss or Lipstick — Which team are you on?
I’m all about lip products as you know. From lip stains to lipglosses, I love it all. But IF I had to choose one over the other, I would have to say I’m very much a lipstick kind of woman. I cannot leave the house without a lipstick. Surprise surprise. I know I posted this question before but I’m interested to see what my new readers think and if my long-time readers have switched ‘teams’ at all.
Why do I love lipstick? There are so many reasons. There’s something about having a tube of lipstick that evokes a more glamorous time. I love how it can alter your overall look with just one swipe. I also love the different finishes, from creamy to sheer. I’m laughing as I write this as I know that this would sound crazy to someone who isn’t into what we are into.
So on this Friday, I pose the question to you: Lipstick? Or Lipgloss? Which one and why?
Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends and happy weekend to everyone else!
Stay tuned for my posts on lipgloss (!) and eyeshadows — vague eh? Stay tuned!

well since we had the discussion the other day you already know im a gloss girl but i think im going to start experimenting with lipsticks more.

Gloss~
I love the wet slick look (though it is one of the reasons why lots of people don't like gloss XD)
I do like lipsticks, but I tend to lick them off very quickly, so it tends to be a waste on me~

Oh I'm thrilled you decided to write about lipgloss/lipstick for this post tonight. I find it way more exciting than eye shadow personally.
I'm a lipgloss girl – gotta love my chanel lipgloss
and of course my dior too
It's simple and easy to match – and for someone who doesn't always know the best shade for my skin tones, it works perfect for me. I find it hard to buy the best lipstick colour but gloss is simple.
Anyhow, it's time for a night out in the city – and time for the glamourous Chanel Equinoxe!

OOh lipgloss is in the lead!
@Farah — our chat inspired this post!
@Linda – i know you love your chanel gloss and where did you get your Dior one?
Nov 27, 2009 @ 23:06:58
I can't live without either of them. I usually layer gloss over lipstick. Habit from being on an airplane and working at mac, stays on longer. But….I do find it hard to walk away from a gorgeous juicy looking tube of gloss. xxN
Nov 27, 2009 @ 23:27:08
Lipgloss for everyday, and lipstick for special occassions. So I guess I usually opt for gloss more, it's more subtle and easier to apply in the morning/during touch ups.
Nov 27, 2009 @ 23:34:32
LIPSTICK ALL THE WAY!
Nov 27, 2009 @ 23:36:42
@Theresa: Yay for lipstick!
Nov 28, 2009 @ 00:31:42
Haha I think we've talked about this before! I'm a LIPSTICK girl!! Not many people are anymore, but I love it! I can't stand the way gloss feels on my lips…I always want to just wipe it off.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 00:54:41
Lipstick! Yet I always seem to layer just a tad of gloss in the center..
Nov 28, 2009 @ 01:36:54
if i had to pick only one, i'd say lip gloss! preferably ones with good color payoff that don't just show up as clear. i have dry lips so gloss makes them look nicer.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 01:49:07
Gloss!
I do use lipstick but when it comes down to it, I prefer gloss
Nov 28, 2009 @ 02:14:35
Oooh, I am definitely a lipstick girl too! I love the way lipstick looks, how it applies much, much more evenly and how it's typically much more pigmented than glosses.
I have to say, I am also really attracted to how pretty lipglosses look in the tube, but I am almost always disappointed in the sheerness, the uneven application and by the formulas. I hate how sticky glosses catch my hair and I find most of the ones I think are pretty in the tube way too blingy for daytime. Plus, lipgloss wearing is hypothesized to increase risk of lip cancer since the shininess helps refract more UV rays into your lips! Mine are dry and damaged enough as it is to risk that LOL.
On the go, I also find lipsticks easier to apply than gloss and longer-lasting as well.
My favorite lipstick formulas of all time are Laura Mercier Stickglosses, Dior Addict High Shines and Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimiteds.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 02:26:53
Lipstick for sure! I love full on color. When I buy lipgloss I always try to find the most pigmented glosses I can. I don't really care for sheer glosses.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 02:55:11
Lipstick for me – I'd go for a sheer lipstick over a gloss generally. I don't like the stickiness of most glosses.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 03:38:08
OMG, I totally know what you mean! Can you imagine a non-makeup junkie reading our posts? They must think we're nuts!!!
Anyway, I'd go with lipstick.
Lipgloss just seem like an extra, where lipstick is more of a basic item.
I use gloss if i want more shine or want the 3-D effect…
I generally prefer shimmery lipstick so i can skip gloss if i choose.
Gloss never stay on for more than 5 seconds for me, I don't know why!!!
Nov 28, 2009 @ 06:09:53
I would go for lipstick!
Your phrase about what the lipstick evokes reminded me of what I once said in a post I wrote a while back about lipstick vs lipgloss (and vs mascara!) – that the lipstick has an old-fashioned unabashed poise that I love.
Have a great weekend!
Nov 28, 2009 @ 07:16:08
Lipgloss.. I think it gives a more sheer natural look which can go with any look.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 07:52:20
LIPSTICK!!! it makes me feel all womanly and fabulous
Nov 28, 2009 @ 09:14:24
team lipgloss because i'm not enough daring to wear lipstick
would like to try lipstick, but i need a very moisturizing one as my lips are super dry, si if you have advice for me…^^
Nov 28, 2009 @ 11:10:44
I love both! Haha, but if I have to choose, I'd say…
Lip Gloss.
Easy, portable, casual, or dressed up.
I say portable because the last two times I went out with a lipstick, they got ruined. Once I stashed it in my bra, it got warmed up, and when I went to apply with was all smooshy. And then another time I was only a little inebriated and I turned the lipstick up the whole way to put it on, and it broke at the base.
Although I love lipstick for the exact reasons you mentioned, for me, it's just safer to have lip glosses.

Mine would be lipstick coz lipstick rules hehe. As you said I love how it just adds a glamour element to any look =) My fave is Mac's Jubilee – Its a lovely creamy pinky brown ♥
Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov 28, 2009 @ 11:24:22
i'm more of a lipstick girl rather than a gloss one. although i own some really pretty glosses i just cant stand them sometimes, especially with all the wind in the winter! i love the fact that with creamier lipsticks i dont NEED a lipgloss because the lipstick provides enough shine
Nov 28, 2009 @ 14:01:36
I have a love hate relationship with both >.< I like the sheerness and subtlety of a nice gloss but the stickiness drives me nuts. Lipsticks are much easier to wear but I'm not as fond of how strong the colors usually are.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 15:36:19
I love both! But, if I'm being honest, I wear lip gloss way more often just because of the ease of application. If I want to look really formal, or, put together, I'll get out the lipstick, and sometimes put gloss on top.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 16:27:37
Totally a gloss girl. I love lipstick, but somehow always end up re-applying with a gloss. I love the sheerness and shine of it
Nov 28, 2009 @ 17:40:05
lip gloss all the way! xD
i'm all about the subtle sheer and shimmery hint of colour on lips.
Nov 28, 2009 @ 17:57:03
Definitely lipstick, I have way more lipsticks than glosses. I prefer the wear and texture of lipsticks, as they're never sticky.
Nov 29, 2009 @ 00:53:14
Lipstick woman here too! Lol!
DD
I love the finish and the fact that they stay on much longer!
But perhaps that's only because I have yet to find the perfect lipgloss brand!
Hmmm, now THAT's a challenge for the new year!
xoxo

Gloss fan here. I have trouble with feathering (even with lipliner) and finding complementary shades. Glosses have been much more forgiving (and moisturizing).
Nov 29, 2009 @ 10:22:43
Gloss! So much easier. I love the shine it gives too.

I love them both but i would def say i am a lipstick girl!
Nov 29, 2009 @ 23:21:54
wowee! Look at all these responses — so amazing since it is the second time I've asked this! Thanks!!I will tally this up tomorrow and share results.

LIPSTICK!!! Sorry for shouting. I don’t have the patience for reapplying gloss 20 times a day; I really need my lip color to last. I totally agree with you that lipstick evokes a more glamorous time, too.
The only gloss I own is a clear one that I occasionally use to top off my lipstick if my lips are feeling dry that day.
