Do you ever....

Do you ever have second thoughts about the makeup you put on...after you've left the house? Here's some background on where I'm going with this:

Last night I watched a Pixiwoo video on how to create an easy daytime look. I was excited to see that two of the products she used were MAC Powersurge eye pencil (gold) and Beaute's Flouron lip stain. I thought I'd see if I could recreate this look...at 5:30 a.m. this morning.

The application went well or so I thought. I used my fave Diorskin Nude foundation, Benefit RSVP on my eyes, Bourjois liner effect mascara (which is brilliant by the way; review to come), Powersurge for my waterline and then Flouron (I reviewed this earlier this summer) on my lips and cheeks.

I felt great - until I looked in the mirror at work. I do think that the lighting in the office washroom is terrible..but still. Flouron is amazing on the lips, though scary looking in the tube -- it looks neon orange. On my lips it appears as a gorgeous pink. But when I saw my cheeks, I almost did a 'Home Alone' scream right then and there.

Rather than a 'flushed' natural glow, I felt like I had pink streaks on my face. Yowzers. I think I overapplied.
I asked my friends at work what they thought and they reassured me that it looked fine. Yet, it bothered me. All day. I spent a few minutes trying to wipe it off which made my cheeks even pinker. Not a happy makeup day.

Thinking back, I'm sure it did look fine. But once I had it in my head that it didn't look fine, that was the end of it.

So my question to you today ladies is: do you ever create a look at home, go out and then have second thoughts about your makeup look? Do you try to fix it?

I love red lipstick. So, I wore my brightest one from Niko cosmetics. Until I was out in public and felt like I had over did myself just to go to the mall. Everyone was staring. I don't know if it was a good or bad thing. Then again, I am a makeup artist. But I'm always self conscious about what I put on myself.

I think it was too much of a dramatized for the day.

Yes...ALL the time!
Damn the dim lighting in my room, coz it almost always look different outside!
I do try to fix it, but usually it doesn't make it better...so i just try to walk with my head down, and hope nobody looks too closely... :S
Urrgh... I need brighter lights...

Sometimes yes, especially with blush. Vanity table lighting is not the same as outdoors so what I think may be sheerly applied may actually look darker outside.

Hi! My lighting is bad in my room so sometimes I do my make-up and it looks amazing at home. Then I go outside and I realize that with natural light, it looks overdone... :-( In this case I try to wipe it off as much as I can...

Yep I have that problem most days from October to March as I leave the house between 6.30am and 7.15am so it's still dark so makeup is a bit hit and miss. Although a few days ago I heard someone on youtube mention a daylight lamp, they were really expensive so I picked up a daylight lightbulb from Homebase for £2.49 and have been using that in my lamp and it's making a lot of difference, i am really pleased so that might be worth a go?

I love blush. But sometimes I overdo it and I don't even notice until I go out in natural lighting. Now before I go out I always check!

Yeah, this happens to me sometimes, but I really think it's all due to lighting. At home, I'll look just fine, but then I'll walk into a store somewhere, and catch my reflection in the mirror, and the coloring just looks off.
Two weeks ago, I stopped by the MAC store here in London, and I swear it had to be their lighting, because I looked horrible. Then I walked out and checked myself in another mirror and it was fine.

Maybe that's' their strategy to get us to purchase make up. You go in there, you think you look horrible, and you want to buy everything they say will make you look better. Who knows?

i'm oh-so-slowly ramping up with makeup so i can't say, but i have most def. done that with clothes AND perfume! for example: i put time into looking cute for a casual dinner date and my darling is in the car in a t-shirt and jeans! oops, i guess i misunderstood...

the bright side is that makeup is easier to correct than an outfit mishap. ^^

I definitely have those days! When I'm just experimenting before work, or when I'm about to go out, and I like the look but I'm iffy about it, I'm not sure how to explain it.

Usually, I just keep it on, cause I'm too lazy to take it off, that's unlesss I really really don't like it.

I wanted to do a light smokey eyes for the day but since the lighting in my room in the early morning is not good, I overapplied the black and looked like Robert Smith from The cure :)

Oh yes, no doubt about it! All the time!! I have different lighting in my broom than the office broom and I always try to correct it when I get to work, but it just makes it worse. Then I go to my desk and take a quick peek of myself with a mirror and it looks totally different, again (natural lighting and tons of it). And you know I can't apply makeup at my desk, you never know...I could have someone walk by and see me, eeek (write up!).

Yes it happens all the time. Sometimes when I experiment with a bold color, I think "uh-oh, am I going to look like a clown?"

We don't have the best lighting in my house, so sometimes my makeup looks totally different outside than inside. I usually check myself out in the car mirrors though before heading out so I can fix any problem areas...if I forget, which sometimes happens,my hubby will usually give me one of his "looks" and I know somethings wrong--lol!!

Yep! This happens when I try a new makeup look.

I guess I've noticed that with a number of pics taken of models/actresses. In one angle the makeup looks very natural/sheer. Then in another angle it's a lot more pigmented, bold, and looks a bit much. I agree with what everyone said here and that it must be the lighting :-)

i do this sometimes as well. lighting is always the issue though. while at home i have that feeling of how i dont have enough blush on or something like that and then i get to where i have to be and am like ugg why did i do that!!!

LOL looks like you're not the only one! I've totally gone through this...especially with blush. I've had to tone it down with tissues at work on numerous occasions. Sometimes I overdo the smokey eye as well...like onetime I went for beer and wings with my boyfriend and some of his friends. I looked like I was ready for a gala while everyone else was in jeans and baseball caps. Oooops!!

Second thoughts on my makeup application? All the time!!!! I can put it on others not problem for freelance and working at mac, but on myself I am the most critical of. p.s. I don't see how you could have looked silly. You're too pretty for that :) xxN
