I think I've always been a high maintenance woman. Get up and go for me still means putting on lipstick. I enjoy getting ready to go out and I enjoy the rituals of taking the makeup off.And it seems that since I've been blogging and reading blogs, I've become even more high maintenance. The steps it takes to get ready to leave the house seems to get longer and longer -- and that's on top of me getting my kids ready! And the steps it takes to take the makeup off and get ready for bed, is also longer.
Here are the things I never used to do before joining the blogsphere:
- exfoliating. I've become recently obsessed thanks to my online friend Liparazzi's post this summer about the importance of exfoliating. Since then I've accumulated enough body and face exfoliators to last me into next year
- highlight and contouring. A year ago, I didn't know how to do this. Now by watching videos and reading blogs, I swear by this -- and love it!!
-wearing more than one eyeshadow colour. Before YouTube and blogging, eyeshadow for me meant one wash of colour on the eyes and then a bit of eyeliner. But I've since ventured out and at minimum these days, I wear two colours of shadow plus liner.
-blush. A year and a half ago, I had one blush, MAC's Mocha. Today I haven't counted how many I have but I think I'm very close to Su-pah's number. I have become a blush fanatic with everything from corals to deep plums in my repertoire.
-night serums. I'm no longer a young lass so I've started to be a bit more meticulous about skincare and sunscreen. Right now I'm loving the Advanced Night Repair Serum by Estee Lauder. I got a couple of samples from a counter a while back and loving using this prior to moisturizer before I go to bed. I feel my skin's texture has dramatically improved since using it.I just have to splurge on a full size bottle soon.
Over to you ladies, are you high maintenance or low? What are you doing today that you never did prior to blogging?
I hope you all had a great weekend. I had a fantastic long weekend with the family. Today felt like a winter day but we had a grand time taking the kids to a Harvest Festival at a local farm. The kids loved the corn maze, the tractor wagon rides, and pony rides. Loved it!

Cosmetology school is what changed it for me, and blogging definitely fed that addiction! Plus, my lovely sister-in-law to be showed me Everyday Minerals, which led to me discovering TONS of other mineral makeup companies and me still being obsessed with them!
I love that you said something about "wearing only one eyeshadow"! I can't even remember how my makeup was in high school, haha, I pretty much only wore black eyeliner, ugh!
Another thing that's changed for me is wearing a color in my crease! Weird, right? I literally only know ONE other person that wears eyeshadow from browbone to lid. Everyone else in Ohio just like...STOPS the shadow after their lid!
My blush love has grown monumentally in the past few months. I remember asking one girl in cos school if I should even wear blush since I have freckles! Now its my new covet item!
@Lisa Kate: You bring up a good point regarding the crease! I never knew how to do this until blogging and Youtube. My blush love was definitely fueled by this community. Thanks for sharing!!
Can I be a Medium? ;)
I do take longer but not that much. I think I use more products but since my YT and Blogging love I have practised more so I'm getting better at it.
Things I use that I didn't before.
Brushes - before I maybe had one and used sponge pad things. Now I have a good few brushes and am so glad I took the plunge as they have made such a difference.
Primers - my eyeshadow now lasts all day and still looks good.
Gel and Liquid eye liners - Before I was all about the pencil. I could never get the hang of liquid liner because I would try, fail and give up. After seeing vids saying it takes everyone I while to master it I stuck with it and now I use it pretty much every day.
I could name more no doubt!

I think that I'm definitely high maintenance. The hubs and I went away to the cottage this weekend and I brought my full arsenal of skin care products. And I've also noticed that it takes me far too long in the morning to do my makeup; more then it every used to. I usually wear 3 or more colours on my eye, plus liner and mascara and everything else that tickles my fancy.
I am still in low maintenance but know where i am going.
I started my makeup journey about half year ago(I am 40).
I did try to learn but I just had no idea where I should start.
With people's blogs and videos.
Then I can go out with a litte bit of make up and hope in the early future, I can more confident with myself and my makeup skill!
P.S. I really enjoy reading your blog!
I used to be super low maintenance. similar to you. no blushes, no highlighting/contouring - one wash of color and that was it!
my sister was and still is very much into beauty products especially skin care and she came across youtube guru muchelle phan. after watching all her videos i was hooked, first just on youtube now more so with blogger.
now i am SUPEr high maintenance.
I'm not sure...I mean I am on my way having a blush collection because I looove blush. Before I use to not have so many--I just had one, Chanel JC in Rose Dust--now I have probably 10 and on my way having more. Reading beauty blogs has helped me get over my fear of wearing lipstick. i am obsessed with serums now (if money allows me to buy another one) bc the Estee Lauder ANR definitely improved my skin.
It's kind of funny because after I went to make-up school.. I don't take that much time to get ready anymore. I barely do my make-up now. Unless I have a gig or I'm going out somewhere.. But I do take much better care of my skin. I too am obsessed with exfoliating. I have so many apricot scrubs.. it's not even funny..
I don't know, maybe because I'm always in a rush with my kids so I just do a quick 5min face.. or I just wash, moisturize and go.
You know... in general I've never really considered myself high-maintenance and never thought of myself as "one of those girls," but I have to say, I'm probably require 500% more maintenance now than I did in high school haha. I wear a full face every day, I have actual brushes, I take better care of my hair & wear things in it (though I still don't really style), I do my nails every week, dress nicer, etc. I am like you though - I really value my morning getting ready ritual to prepare me for the day. I feel off when I don't get to spend a little time on myself in the morning.
you know, I think I do less now I'm blogging? A lot of the time I can't be bothered and just do the basics- boring! Thsi needs to change! I'm in a good phase at the moment but a lot of the time I'm lazy and can't get out of bed!
I never used to contour my cheekbones before I started blogging and what a difference it makes!I also didn't use more than 2 makeup brushes and now I have about 30.ha ha. I am definitely high maintenance but then I would say that 99% of the girls on here will be, given our shared love of all things pretty :)
I think I am in the middle. For some things I am hight maintenance, for some others I am still lazy.
I know girls who do tons of masks on their faces and exfoliate at least twice a week...I hate my skin, but I really can't be bothered. I wear masks and exfoliate when I think I need that.
But I do have routines, and try new products that are even pretty expensive. That's probably one thing that changed with blogging. Trying the more expensive products.
as regards to my makeup what has changed ever since I've started blogging is: ordering things online, such as primers that I can't find here, and using gel liners. actually I have one. they're not popular here yet so I had to buy the Shiseido one which cost me a fortune. But I do not regret it. I love gel liners and I feel sorry for all of those who still know only liquid liners. I'm defo gonna buy more gel liners in London.
And also, blogging got me back to my experimenting days. I play with colors on me and on my friends just like I used to when I was a teenager. Thanks, blogger, for getting my creative side back! ;)
I'm def high maintenance but I don't see this as a negative thing at all. Taking time over my appearance has a huge effect on my self-esteem. Anyways, high maintenanace = high quality!!

I totally agree with you, reading beauty blogs tends to make us become high maintenance !Before, I was the kind of girl who only put some moisturizer and liner on her face..not now ^^
before reading blogs i really didn't do much with skincare...i just washed and moisturized...but now i want everything..lol
You go girl!
I might be high maintenance, but I'm still in the denial stage. Hehe!
I'm not really high maintenance. I only wear make-up about twice a week, and my hair is almost ALWAYS up in a pony tail.
HOWEVER, when I do wear make-up. It takes me a while. lol. I do contouring, blush, primers, a few eyeshadows and the list goes on. It has become quite the process. I can definitely thank the blogger world for that lol. I also started to get really obsessive about my face routine. But I don't count that as high maintenance, I call that being hygenic. lol.
As you might have read in my blog before, I've changed A LOT this past year too since I started watching Youtube and blogging. One thing that particularly stands out is my obsession with mascaras now, considering that I NEVER owned a single mascara a year ago. It's getting crazier! Help!!
Lol, this post brings back a few memories from my life b.m. (before makeup)! Lol!
Highlighting and contouring and shadow combinations? Yeah right! :DDD
I don't know how I did it!!!

Blending - I've got some awful photos that I need to burn at some point :)
But despite all the make up I own, I think I'm still pretty much low maintenance.
Thanks for sharing ladies!! Loved reading this.
