Expert’s Corner: Tips from Julio Sandino
Remember the NARS event I went to? I had the amazing Julio Sandino from NYC do my makeup. Recently I asked him what he thinks are the most common makeup mistakes women make. Here are his answers:
1) Taking short cuts: “I feel that women make the mistake to take short cuts when it comes to make up. Everyday I see lots of women buying beautiful make up and not the proper tools to apply it. To get a beautiful finish for your make up, is very important to apply it with a good brush. Brushes made with natural fiber hair are always best. Goat hair is good for powder, while sable and squirrel are good for eyeshadow application. The look of the make up is more blended and beautiful as oppose to using sponge applicators.”
2) Forgetting about the importance of good skincare. “Sixty per cent of the look of the make up relies on beautiful complexion. If your complexion is not smooth and even, then the make up does not look smooth and even. It is very important to do this 4 steps; cleanse, tone, exfoliate and moisturize. By obeying this 4 simple rules, the look and feel of your skin will be much more radiant and smooth, therefore, the make up will look much more gorgeous.”
3) Wrong foundation. “I see lots of clients who want to look like they spent 3 months in the Caribbean, when clearly their complexion says otherwise. So they rely on foundation for this effect. If tan is what you want to look like, please don’t rely on the foundation. The foundation should always match your skin tone and to create the tan effect, just add some bronzer on top of your foundation. Otherwise, the look is mask like and not very natural.”
I thought these were great tips! Thanks Julio. Check out Julio’s web site HERE.

I completely disagree about the brushes. I prefer taklon brushes (which are synthetic).
I definitely agree about the foundation though

Having proper brushes do make a difference. I am currently waiting for my Sigma ones and I just can't wait!
Mine now are synthetic and I am really curious of the difference. I, however, feel so sorry for those animals. Really
and about the foundation: THAT IS RIGHT! I see girls wearing tons of it, or wearing orange faces, with tons of blush or bronzer oon it which make them look even worse. Drag queen look :S – not good!!!

Great post. I see so many "face mask" repeat offenders. It's not a good look! Best advice he could have given, match your foundation to your face!

Thanks for sharing hun!
True that, about not taking shortcuts and using the right brushes. Although I'm a complete cheapskate when it comes to brushes, they are either free or as cheap as free… but that doesn't necessarily mean bad quality. They're able to the job well.
Speaking of NARS, are you excited about the new Holiday collection out soon? Eeek!!
