Canadian beauty spotlight: Marcelle’s Fall shadows (review)

At the end of July, I was given an opportunity to get a sneak peek of some products from Marcelle’s Fall Collection. Marcelle is a Canadian makeup line that is part of Groupe Marcelle, which also owns Annabelle Cosmetics.

The Marcelle Wet & Dry Eyeshadow quads include Blue Moon, a gorgeous set of four matte shades including a white highlight, greyish blue, light blue and dark blue shadows; and Nude Attitude, a very pretty neutral palette. The eyeshadow duo in Chic Plum is Fall-friendly containing a pink and dark purple, both with a hint of shimmer.

I must admit that I haven’t paid any attention to this Canadian brand at all in the last few years. As I mentionned previously, I was focused on MAC and other department store brands. But I think that based on my experience with these shadows, I will have to take a closer look at what else is available from this line as I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I liked these. Here’s a summary:

PROS
- matte shades were smooth and not chalky. I LOVED the blue palette as I thought the colours in this palette were not typically the shades I go for in the fall. The navy blue was amazing used as a liner when wet (apologies for not doing a FOTD, camera has been very finicky lately)

-very pigmented
-when the shadows were applied wet, they were even more pigmented
-price points are affordable $14 (Canadian)
- long-lasting – even with my long days, the colour stayed put all day especially when used wet
-creasing was minimal when used with a primer

CONS

- while the Chic Plum was pretty, I didn’t think the combination was that unique
- not necessarily a con for others but for me the Neutral palette tended to blend in with my skin tone (NC35 in MAC terms). I used the palette mainly as a base.
-I would suggest using a primer or other eyeshadow base to limit creasing

SWATCHES

Swatch – Chic Plum duo

Swatches – Blue Moon Duo (my favorite of the three)

Marcelle’s Fall line-up is expected to be in Canadian retail stores this week if it isn’t already.
For U.S. readers, you can order Marcelle/Annabelle products by calling customer service at 1 800 387-7710, extension 352 or 353. Visit the web site at http://www.marcelle.com/ for more information. For my other international readers, at this point, these aren’t available online but I would ask for them in any swaps you do with Canadians.
Thanks for stopping by!

I have a green and bone Marcelle Duo that is gorgeous. This is a really nice brand. I'd love to read about the Lise Watier collection when it comes out if you get a chance too.

Everybody is doing wet/dry shadows now huh? I wouldn't complain, I like to apply my shadows wet for a nicer pop.

The blue palette is gorgeous — not something I would have picked out myself originally but now I think I will pay greater attention to blues. I'm keen on checking out Lancome's Declaring Indigo collection for Fall.

    Thanks for the comments ladies!

Thanks for the review! I've been wondering about their makeup line as I use their eyecreams. I didn't know they owned Annabelle too! Support Canadian businesses! LOL.

@Rasilla and @Natalie: It's definitely worth a look – I need to support our Canadian brands more too.
