Favorite Reads – Tag

I saw this tag on Victoria‘s blog and thought I’d post something non-makeup related. I love to read and you’ll find stacks of books by my bedside waiting to be read. Here’s a sampling of some of my all-time favorite books. It was actually very hard to pick. I read many of these a long time ago and found it hard to summarize so I have pulled info from Amazon.

The Kite Runner
“The Kite Runner tells the gripping story of a boyhood friendship destroyed by jealousy, fear, and the kind of ruthless evil that transcends mere politics.” Amazon.com
This is one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve put it down. It is riveting.

The Red Tent
The red tent is the place where women gathered during their cycles of birthing, menses, and even illness. This story is told by a woman named Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, who is only mentionned very briefly in the bible. Dinah whispers stories of her four mothers, Rachel, Leah, Zilpah, and Bilhah–all wives to Jacob. Through Dinah, we learn of birthing miracles, slaves, artisans, household gods, and sisterhood secrets. Eventually Dinah delves into her own saga of betrayals, grief, and a call to midwifery. It is a really interesting read that made me cry while on public transit.
A Prayer for Owen Meany
“Owen Meany is a dwarfish boy with a strange voice who accidentally kills his best friend’s mom with a baseball and believes–accurately–that he is an instrument of God, to be redeemed by martyrdom.” – Amazon.com
The movie sucked but this book is amazing. I read it in high school and have kept a copy on my shelf ever since. One of my all-time favorites.

The Time Traveller’s Wife
This is essentially a love story and is about to be released as a movie. I encourage you to read this book first if you are at all thinking about seeing the movie. It is an amazing read and not sure how they will be able to capture all the nuances in the book. Again, a tear-jerker and one that you will think about for days. It is one of those books where you get to parts and wonder what does this mean and I don’t get it. But stick through it and you will be hooked. It is essentially the love story between a man named Henry who can travel in time and meets his wife Claire when is a child, a teenager etc. It is told from his and her perspective. That’s all I can tell you. Go out and get this book!

Twilight series
I don’t think I need to go into detail about these books. Aside from makeup, the Twilight series is my other obsession. I read the entire series in one week. My favorite book in this teen series about vampire love is Eclipse.
I tag anyone else who wants to do this!
