Bargain Beauty Review: Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Lipcolor
Always on the search for beauty bargains at the drugstore, I came across the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Lipcolor at the local Shopper’s Drug Mart. I saw some other bloggers review this and was interested. I bought the colour #075 Nude (swatch below).
I was kind of annoyed that Shopper’s only had one tester for one colour (Peony) so I wasn’t able to swatch and decide. Instead, I had to guess and I stuck to what I thought would be wearable. That’s one of my pet peeves about drugstore makeup. Testers are often missing, overly mushed up or gone altogether.
Anyway, here’s a rundown of how this lippie held up during a 9 hour day:
5:30 a.m. – I am an early bird indeed. I decided to try and wear only drugstore products for the day except foundation. Eyes: Gosh eyeliner in Pretty Petrol; Joe Fresh cheek tint in Peach; Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow (#730 Skinlights) and Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara.
5:45 a.m. – Applied Revlon lip colour to lips. By the looks of the tube and application wand, you expect it to feel like a gloss. Wrong. Very different. It dries up quickly on your lips which is a bit disconcerting. Colour is very neutral. It’s pretty but it felt dry for me right away.
12:30 p.m. – Lip colour held up even after morning coffee and meatloaf lunch. Felt very dry so I put on Burt’s Bees lip balm.
6 p.m. – Lip colour still on as I made dinner for kiddies. It faded a bit though. Here’s a pic of me with lippie in between making homemade chicken fingers.
9:30 p.m. – Took makeup off for the day. Colour still there but faded. Lips felt super dry. Wiped off remnants with makeup remover.
It’s an interesting product for sure. It does live up to its promise of being a long lasting lip colour. But remember that is what it is, a lip colour, not a gloss. I liked the colour I got (neutral pink) but the dryness really bothered me. I have dry lips to begin with so this makes it feel worse. I think moving forward I will have to put a clear gloss on top of this to make it feel ‘normal’ to me. Though that probably means it will affect the long-lasting effects of the product. Oh well.
I give this 3.5 lippies out of 5 or a B -
Anyone else try this product? What do you think?
